This project was begun in the hopes that we could be of some help in reviving the terraced rice fields of Teshima Island. The rice we produce is grown from seeds that have undergone a natural hot water disinfection method, and no pesticides or chemicals are used at any point in the rice cultivation process. Isao Okano, who spent twenty years developing a chemical-free method for rice bran cultivation in Kagawa prefecture’s Sanuki city, leads the group of ten men and women who commute to Teshima Island to grow the rice for this project.
